Gifts of the Heart

Gifts of the Heart
Christmas Eve and excited children all over the world wait in anticipation of opening their gifts in the morning and some will hope that the gift they bought their friends and relatives will be unwrapped to cries of
‘Just what I’ve always wanted.’

Many homes will have a brightly lit Christmas tree, with an angel or star on the top, each branch trimmed with baubles and tinsel.
Colourfully wrapped gifts of all shapes and sizes are neatly arranged around its base.
There are those of course who for whatever reason do not celebrate the birth of Jesus but the Gift of the Christ child is for everyone even those who do not celebrate.
This Gift was not found under a tree, (the tree featured thirty three years later) nor wrapped in fancy gift wrap, (just strips of cloth) no tinsel, no streamers, no balloons or party poppers but there was the biggest proclamation you could ever imagine, an Angel of God accompanied by others from Heavens’ Army appeared to some frightened shepherds who were going about their business tending sheep.
Of course it’s only fitting for a shepherd to know when a lamb has been born and what a way to       announce it.
Can you imagine the sight?
They were of course afraid at first and the Angel said 'Fear not I bring you glad tidings of great Joy'Later three Wise Men following the brightest star there’s ever been, called to pay homage, each bringing a gift from the heart. Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
Jesus is Gods’ triple gift of the heart to mankind, to those who will receive Him.
Love Joy and Peace.
In order to get the full benefit of a gift you have to unwrap it.
Hundreds of years before the Messiahs birth Isaiah wrote
Isaiah 9:6-8
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
and he will be called Wonderful Counsellor,
Might God, Everlasting Father, Prince of
   Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end. He will reign on David’s
throne and over his kingdom, establishing and
upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The ZEAL of the LORD Almighty will
   accomplish this.
The gift of Love
John 3:16 says
’For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that every one who believes in him shall not be lost, but should have eternal life.’
1 John 4:10 says
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
and 1 John 4:8 says
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
The gift of Joy
John 15:10-12 says
10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in
my love, just as I have kept my Father’s
commands and remain in his love.
11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in
you and that your joy may be complete.
12 My command is this: Love each other as I have
     loved you
The gift of Peace
Luke 2:12-14
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host
appeared with the angel, praising God and
     saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on
earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”

John 14:26-27
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father will send in my name, will teach you all
things and will remind you of everything I have
     said to you.
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I
do not give to you as the world gives. Do not
let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jesus is of course The Prince of Peace
May you be so richly blessed as you unwrap Gods’ gift anew this Christmas.
May Love, Joy and Peace be yours in abundance.

Love

Over the years many have sought to explain what love is but can love really be explained?

Artists have painted pictures, singers have sung songs and poets have written poems.

The Bible says this about Love.

1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:10
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotton Son that whosoever believes on Him will not perish but have eternal Life.

That is my favourite verse.

What about you?

Canal Drama

It,s peaceful down by the canal.
Didn’t expect this though.
The last boat through the lock forgot to leave the sluice open,
resulting in the canal overflowing.
soon remedied, sluice opened and peace returned

It will take a little while for the path to dry though.
----
Habakkuk 3:10
The mountains saw You and they trembled;
the overflowing of the water passed by;
the deep uttered his voice and lifted up his hands on high.

The beauty of moss on a wall top.

Have you noticed the beauty of moss on a wall top?
It’s like a garden with different shapes and sizes of plants.
Soft and springy like a luxurious carpet.
Not planted by human hand.
Perhaps that’s why I find it so special.
Luke 12:27
Consider the lilies, how they grow:

Forgiveness

Where does forgiveness begin?

When you acknowledge you’ve done wrong?
When you ask forgiveness from the one you’ve wronged?
When you resolve not to do the wrong thing again?
Or all three?

God scans the horizon for the lost to return

Luke 15:10-32

-------

As a boy I often sang this old hymn in assembly and it remains one of my favourites today.

There Is A Green Hill Far Away

There is a green hill far away,
outside a city wall,
where our dear Lord was crucified
who died to save us all.

We may not know, we cannot tell,
what pains he had to bear,
but we believe it was for us
he hung and suffered there.

He died that we might be forgiven,
he died to make us good,
that we might go at last to heaven,
saved by his precious blood.

There was no other good enough
to pay the price of sin,
he only could unlock the gate
of heaven and let us in.

O dearly, dearly has he loved!
And we must love him too,
and trust in his redeeming blood,
and try his works to do.

Psalm 139:14
I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: your works are marvellous; and that, my soul knows right well.

The placenta is responsible for working as a trading post between the mother’s and the baby’s blood supply. Small blood vessels carrying the fetal blood run through the placenta, which is full of maternal blood. Nutrients and oxygen from the mother’s blood are transferred to the fetal blood, while waste products are transferred from the fetal blood to the maternal blood, without the two blood supplies mixing.

So a baby’s blood belongs to itself and is unique.

Each Christmas a certain aspect of the Nativity jumps off the pages at me and this year is no different.

I love the whole account, Angels, Shepherds, Magi etc. but before all that Elizabeth wife of Zachariah became pregnant even though they were both very old and Elizabeth was barren.

Zacharias was a priest in the temple and It was there that God told him that his wife would give birth to a son. Zacharias didn’t believe this and was struck dumb until the birth of John the Baptist.

When Elizabeth is six months pregnant, her cousin Mary who is also pregnant (with the baby Jesus) comes to see her and the baby in Elizabeth leaps for Joy.

John the Baptist knew who Jesus is.

See Luke chapter one.

Many years later, also in the water, John leaped for Joy again and said
"look the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world"

Do you know who Jesus is?

A Profusion Of Dahlias

I was passing by this small back yard and marvelled at the beauty contained therein so I thought I would share it with you.

There is beauty everywhere if only we would take the time to see it.
    1 Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewellery, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

LOVE

John 3:16
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God sent Jesus to show His Love for you.

Does that surprise you?

Pain is the bodys way of letting us know there’s something wrong.
We all know that but what about constant pain which cannot be explained?
I don’t know.
But I know this

no matter what your circumstances are
no matter how real your pain
they are just for now
God's promises to you are forever
and you can trust what He says wholeheartedly

God doesn't make promises lightly
His promises He won't forget
and the thing that He's done
through Jesus His Son
are the best of His promises yet
